PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The General English course prepares students for conversational and everyday use.

The major topics include:

Communicative Grammar- Designed to help students apply learned grammar into applicable, real-life communication with other speakers.

Integrated Skills- Students understand how to gather information by reading and listening to the various TOEFL English materials through audio and visual aids.

Pronunciation- Through repetition and linguistic teaching methods the student learns how to correctly convey the English language. This covers the different sounds, word stresses, contrastive stress, and connective speech.

INTENSIVE ENGLISH 200

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

he Intensive English course prepares students for office and more intensive English needs. Students will have 6 steps in this program that will enhance their language skills and also allow them to communication in more professional environments.
The major topics include:

Real Speaking- Involves less text book learning and more one on one, slang and idioms, real life materials (ie. Toronto Media), Native speaking at normal pace.
TOEIC Preparation- We will learn English and Business terms, as well as listening and reading comprehension.

Profession based English- Students interested in Medicine or other fields we will incorporate industry specific terminology and concepts into their program.
Writing / Grammar / Vocabulary Building- As with the General English 100 course there will be a concentration on the important basic language areas of Writing / Grammar / Vocabulary Building.

TOEFL & TOEIC ENGLISH 300

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

TOEFL and TOEIC tests are the general standard for English levels.

Students who require academic entrance (TOEFL) or employment entrance (TOEIC) may need a high score on one of the two test depending on the student’s goal.

Students will take a written and oral placement test (TOEFL Based) on the first day to determine their English level.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The TOEFL and TOEIC English courses prepare students requiring TOEFL and TOEIC score improvements or entrance requirements. Students will have 10 levels within this program that will enhance their TOEFL or TOEIC scores. TOEFL and TOEIC scores are used as indicators for University, College and Employment acceptance.

The major topics include:

Learning to Distinguish Wrong Answers – Like all test the TOEFL and TOEIC test has a certain protocol to their questions in order to assess the student`s likelihood of predicting the correct answer, there are ways to detect and eliminate incorrect answers in an efficient way.

TOEIC Preparation – Business terms, as well as listening and reading comprehension, split into the four categories of the TOEIC test, (1) short answer, (2) fill in the blanks, (3) reading comprehension, and (4) listening section.

TOEFL Preparation – Same as above (Based on TOEFL testing systems).

Time Strategies and Developing a TOEFL/ TOEIC Study Schedules – These are two very important areas to gain expertise in TOEFL or TOEIC testing as you will be able to gauge your overall performance based on your speed and the content you are covering.

Writing / Grammar / Vocabulary Building – As with the General English 100 course there will be a concentration on the important basic language areas of Writing / Grammar / Vocab Building.

ENGLISH FOR BUSINESS 400

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Students will take a written and oral placement test (TOEFL Based) on the first day to determine their English level.

Students who score at the Beginner or Intermediate level will be placed in General English and can take Business English after 8 weeks as their secondary classes.

Students who score at an advance level can take the English for Business.English level.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The English for Business course is designed to develop skills for employment and business purposes. English for Business students will train with the Cambridge English Business Preliminary, Vantage or Higher program depending on their level.

The major topics include:

Negotiating and Networking – Students will be involved in workshops designed to explain the appropriate etiquette related to negotiating and networking in the office and on business trips.

Writing Business Documents – Students will learn how to write effective business emails, memos and letters. As well as how to prepare presentation and meeting based materials.

Office Environment – Students will learn on the job responsibilities such as handling phone calls, greeting clients, troubleshooting, managing and attending meetings.

Business Case Studies/ Role Play – Students will be given various Business based case studies depending on their industry of interest (ie. Hospitality, IT, Healthcare, Finance, Accounting), this provides a strong understanding of industry specific terminology, etiquette and practices.

STUDY AND WORK EXPERIENCE 600

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Student must have completed the General English program or have acceptable minimum TOEFL iBT scores in Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing, or a TOEIC score of 550.

Student requires a valid Study & Work Permit (C-30 Exemption) for the period of the program.

Student must be 19 years of age or older.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Study and Work Experience program offers students extensive English language skills including grammar, conversation, writing, speaking, listening, pronunciation and vocabulary.

Added to the language training will be a portion of this course where the student will be placed in a workplace environment, this will allow students to improve and their classroom skills while getting workplace experience.

Student will complete a 50-hour job placement workshop where they will learn resume writing, interview, and on-the job skills.

The major topics include:

Grammar and Conversations – Students will reinforce important Grammar word classes and apply them confidently to a one on one conversation. Student will listen to TOEFL audio materials to gradually improve their pronunciation and conversational rhythm.

Writing Office Documents – Students will learn how to write effective office style emails, memos and letters. As well as how to prepare presentation and meeting based materials.

Interviewing – Students will be given interviews to practice their interview skills. Students will learn how to position themselves as the best candidate possible for the job. They will also learn sourcing, resume preparation and interview follow-up techniques.

Academic and Work Advisor – With your advisor you will choose your industry and/ or position. Once this is completed you will learn skills to help you in your job placement, such as handling phone calls, greeting clients, and socializing at work.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

This course is for students interested in applying for a Post Graduate Degree in a North American Business School.

All applicants should understand the undergrad requirements for being accepted into a North American Business school, however there are no requirements to enroll in this program.
